5 die in road accidents in Ilocos Norte, La Union

CAMP JUAN, Ilocos Norte – Five persons died in separate road accidents in Ilocos Norte and La Union on Monday. Police said that Mary Ann Resurrecion, 36, salt vendor and her 10- year old daughter identified only as “Baby”, not her real name, both residents in Barangay 7, Caruan, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte died after they were accidentally hit by a Montero SUV along the national highway of said place. I n v e s t i g a t ion disclosed the accident occurred at about 8:50a.m. on Monday.

The Montero vehicle, driven by one Ricky De Leon, 36, seaman by profession and a resident of Barangay Magliman, San Fernando, Pampanga, was moving north when the driver lost control after he tried to evade an electric post in the outermost lane of the highway before it hits the victims walking at the opposite side of the road.

Both victims sustained serious body injuries causing their instant death. The driver of the SUV voluntarily surrendered to policemen after the accident. Meanwhile, one Emiliano Monis, 60 and his son, Christian Del Mar Monis, 24, both construction workers residing in Barangay Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union, died after the motorcycle they were riding in crashed along Bitalag- Luna Road in Barangay Bitalag, Bacnotan, La Union on Monday.

Police said the victims sustained serious head injuries causing them to die upon reaching the hospital. In another accident, police said that one Romel Flores, 23, a resident of Barangay Daramuangan, Naguilian, La Union died while being treated in a hospital due to serious body injuries he sustained after his motorcycle bumped the rear portion of a vehicle parked along the national highway in Barangay Baccuit Sur, Bauang, La Union on Sunday.
