7 PNP personnel awarded for heroism, meritorious service

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – The Police Regional Office Cordillera awarded seven deserving Philippine National Police personnel and parents of one who died in line of duty here at regional police headquarters last week. A regional police press statement said Medalya ng Kagalingan was awarded to Lt. Col. Mario Mayames Jr, of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 for heroism and intrepidity in action during the Marawi siege in 2017 as commanding officer of the SAF troopers.
 Medalya ng Kasanayan was also awarded to Lt. Col. Antonio De Jesus, Maj. Ardie Bagaman and CMS Anna Liza Cortez, all of the Regional Finance Service Office-15 for establishing effective processing system that resulted in timely liquidation of benefits claims, pay and allowances of PROCor personnel.
Medalya ng Kasanayan was also conferred to Cpl. Frederick Diong-an of the Regional Police Strategy Management Unit for successfully passing the 2018 Bar examinations. Medalya ng Papuri was given to Capt. Carla Domoyeg of Regional Legal Service for providing legal assistance to operating units of Tayum police in Abra in application of search warrant that resulted in confiscation of nine firearms, magazines and ammunition on April 26 at Sition an-anaao, Barangay Budac, Tayum, Abra.
Same award was also bestowed to Maj. Florante Quiban of the Regional Health Service for providing medical assistance to the personnel of RMFB15 wounded in police operations during encounter with New People’s Army guerillas on April 3, in mountainous areas between Tadian and Bauko Mt. Province.
Meanwhile, a check amounting to P445,020 from the National Police Commission was received by parents of the late Patrolman Ben Jay Keith Pursen. “While we are firm with our internal cleansing program and other disciplinary actions against roque cops, we also encourage and bring out the best from our personnel thus granting appropriate awards for laudable achievements,” said Cordillera police regional director Brig. Gen. Israel Ephraim T Dickson said.

GL Trans, Rising Sun buses collide; 30 hurt

SABANGAN, Mountain Province – Two drivers and 28 others were injured when two passenger buses collided here around 5 p.m. of May 24 at Sitio Bisibisan, Barangay Supang. The GL Tans bus bearing plate no. RMF 568 was driven by Blester Lapa-an Bing-il, 26, of 501 San Vicente, Kennon Road, Baguio City while the Rising Sun Bus bearing plate no. AYU 865, was driven by Dave Bangcado, 26, of km 3, San Luis Extension, Baguio City.
 Injured were Tessie C. Naoy, 59 and Ben B. Carbonnel, 83, both of Lacmaan, Besao town; Doroteo B. Santong, 74, of Tamboan, Besao; Taharis Dalida Yogawen, 11, of Balugan, Sagada; Eddilyn B. Naubo, 18 of Bun-Ayan, Sabangan; Mario T. Sildon, 29, of Soquib, Sagada; Shendra T. Filog, 20, of Bontoc Ili, Bontoc; Esmila A. Paterno, 20 and Sheina B. Lengao, 19, both of Mabaay, Bauko. Also injured were RubyJoan and January both surnamed Facullo of Samoki, Bontoc; Mikaela G. Tichap, 15 of Talubin, Bontoc; Myrna, Kitongan, 27, Baguio City; Christian Dalapus, 23; Mt. Data, Bauko; Glen C. Gayagay, 11, Caluttit, Bontoc; Manuel Mendoza Imatong, 69, Abatan, Bauko; Xarwin Degyam, 48, Sadanga; Vera Falisang, 25, Bontoc Ili; Verginia Kilito, 38, Samoki and Jun Kilito both of Samoki and Chrystel Tabora, 32 of Sabagan. lso injured were Jackilyn Cahlloy, 53, of Ambiong, Baguio City and Janet Aoas, 55. Investigation disclosed the GL was traversing the national road going to Besao, Mountain Province when at a curve, its wheels suddenly slipped making the vehicle encroach the opposite lane hitting the Rising Sun traversing opposite direction headed to Baguio City. As a result, both vehicles incurred multiple damages.
 Victim were rushed by concerned citizens to Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital in Bauko town while seven passengers were brought to Bontoc General Hospital for treatment.

Camp Crame intel cop mauled, robbed in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – A cop based in Camp Crame’s intelligence division was mauled by four men here May 24 around 7:30 p.m. while he was walking along Leonard Wood Road.
The victim was identified as Emmanuel Ferrer Ozaeta, 33, single. Ozaeta told investigators he was headed to Teachers Camp when a white L300 van stopped beside him, suspects alighted and one of them suddenly collared and punched the victim then dragged him to a dark portion of the road. The victim pleaded to the men to stop punching him and identified himself as a policeman.
The victim took out his wallet but one of the assailants cautioned him not to move. After confirming the identity of the victim, same suspect gave back the wallet. However, the cash amounting to ± 15,000 was missing that prompted him to report the incident.

 Man 63, arrested for molesting PNP officer

BANAUE, Ifugao – A 63-year-old man was arrested here on May 26 for acts of lasciviousness against a female cop assigned at the Malabon Police Station in Manila and native of this place. A police report said the incident happened around 9:40 a.m. that day along Barangay Amganad here based on complaint of victim Sgt. Jeanette Ann Dumawol Dulnuan, 30, single against suspect Lino Hummiwat Onnon, 63, of Poitan, Banaue. Investigation disclosed the suspect allegedly touched the private part of the victim while they were on board the Ohayammi Bus enroute from Banaue to Manila. Onnon is still detained here at the local jail.

New Pangasinan PNP chief assumes post

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — Col. Redrico Maranan, former Marikina City police chief, took over as Pangasinan’s acting police director. He replaced Col. Wilson Joseph Lopez, who was designated chief of staff in the Southern Police District. The turnover ceremony was held yesterday at Camp Gov. Antonio Sison in Lingayen. – Eva Visperas

8 nabbed in Cordillera anti-crime operations

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet — Eight persons were arrested in separate police operations in the Cordillera recently, Police Regional Office Cordillera information office chief Major Carolina Lacuata said in a telephone interview. Lacuata said five persons were arrested for violation of the anti-drug law.
They were Deogracias V. Astudillo also known as “Iniol”, 32, tricycle driver, and resident of Zone 7, Bangued, Abra; Allen Palangeo Saleo-an, 53, of Camp 8, Kennon Road, Baguio City; Kenneth Talines Bustamante, 28, of Middle Quirino Hill, Baguio City; Yull Bryner Carbonel, 21, of San Juan, Tabuk City and his companion Ferdinand Guillermo, 27, of Magsaysay, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Suspected shabu, buy bust money, as well as cellphones were confiscated from the suspects. Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, have been filed against them. Lacuata also said that police in the region arrested three gun holders and confiscated four short firearms and ammunition on Thursday.
Arrested by the Abra police was Arcadio Biyoc Reyes for possession of a caliber .45 pistol with live ammunition. Prior to his arrest, he was reported to have fired his gun in front of their residence after a misunderstanding with his father.
 In Baguio City, joint personnel of the city and Benguet police, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group searched the house of Roderick Lalata Mejia, 42, in Barangay Lourdes Proper, which resulted in the confiscation of two caliber .38 and 13 ammunition. The search was by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Mervin Jovito S. Samadan, Acting Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 70 in Burgos, Pangasinan. A suspected illegal logger was also arrested in Kalinga.
 Alfredo Diyawan Balac, 55, was caught in the act of cutting logs into lumber at his “kaingin” near his residence in Sitio San Isidro, Cudal, Tabuk City, Kalinga. Police confiscated a caliber .45 pistol and five ammunition in his bag.
All arrested individuals, together with confiscated pieces of evidence are now under the custody of the concerned operating units and are facing appropriate charges. Procor director, Brig. Gen. Israel Ephraim Dickson appealed to the public to surrender unlicensed firearms or face charges. — PNA

 3 arrested in La Trinidad pot session

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three drug personalities were arrested after they were caught in a pot session here at Trading Post, Pico, Wednesday night. Suspects were identified as Christian Paicot Beneyat, 22, vegetable trader, native of Mt. Province; Stepfen Oracion Lorenzo, 22, carrot washer and Melgar Toda Saltin, 26, farmer, both natives of Buguias, Benguet. Seized from them a plastic sachet with suspected shabu residue, assorted drug paraphernalia and Samsung mobile phone.

Buguias farmer nabbed for shabu

BUGUIAS, Benguet – A certain Chester Bayacsan Kiblasen, 29, farmer was arrested here Wednesday evening at Bad-ayan, Baculongan Sur, Buguias, Benguet after selling suspected shabu to an agent who posed as buyer. Seized from his possession were P2,000 boodle money, P1,000 cash Philhealth ID and a cellphone.

Chinese man cornered in Urdaneta for drugs

URDANETA CITY, Pangasinan – Joint elements of Pangasinan Police, NBI Manila, PDEA and other law enforcement units arrested a Chinese national who is an alleged member of a drug syndicate operating in the province. Col Wilzon Joseph Lopez, Pangasinan Provincial Director said Lui Bin, of legal age, was arrested 3 a.m. on May 25 in his hideout in Dona Trining Subdivision, Barangay Camantiles, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan with the implementation of Search Warrant no 259-019 issued by Judge Mervin Jovito S Samadan of RTC branch 70, Burgos, Pangasinan dated May 20, 2019, for violation of RA 9165 .
Seized from him were five (5) pieces assorted plastic scoop; one (1) box recyclable plastic bag; one (1) small weighing scale; one (1) big weighing scale; one (1) recyclable plastic transparent plastic bag containing suspected shabu with an estimated weight of more or less 300 grams with street value of Php 500,000.00. The arrested suspect and the seized evidence are now under the custody of NBI Manila for proper disposition. 2 held in Tayum, Baguio for drugs

Two alleged drug pushers were apprehended here Tuesday in their respective residences in Abra and Baguio. Suspect Ramon B. Carino, 38, of Poblacion Tayum Abra was nabbed in the morning while Angelo D. Vinluan, 20, and a resident of Upper Session Road, Barangay Engineers Hill, Baguio City was caught in the afternoon. Evidence seized in possession of Carino was sachet of shabu while marijuana leaves wrapped in transparent plastic was confiscated from Vinluan. All suspects were charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in court.

 Marijuana lands student in jail

BAGUIO CITY — Police arrested an 18-yearold student identified as Eric Justine Abuan Areola, in his residence here at Purok 3, New Lucban on May 26. Confiscated from his alleged possession were two sachets of marijuana. Charge for illegal drugs were filed against him at the prosecutor’s office.

Banaue cops trace rape suspect in Isabela town

CORDON, Isabela – Cops from Banaue, Ifugao traced a man here wanted for rape in Banaue and arrested the suspect on May 24 around 7 p.m. at Sitio Bumangon, Barangay Quirino. Nabbed was John Ballawid after judge Ester L. Piscoso-Flor of RTC Branch 34, Banaue issued warrant against him for the offense. The judge set bail of P200,000 for the suspects temporary liberty.

 Porter nabbed with shabu in buy-bust

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A certain Junato Wassi Pacio, 21, porter, of Buguias, Benguet and resident here of km 5 Pico was arrested at Trading Post for illegal drugs last week. Allegedly confiscated from Pacio were four sachets of suspected shabu, P1,000 buybust money and Samsung cellphone.

Man falls in Itogon buy-bust

ITOGON, Benguet — A certain Lando Alcido “Lando” Thomas, 43, was arrested here last week at Sitio Bubon,Virac for illegal drugs. Two sachets of suspected shabu, ± 1,000 buy-bust money and Samsung cellphone were confiscated from Lando.

Bet collectors arrested in Tuba

TUBA, Benguet — Two bet collectors were arrested collecting bet money for Small Time Lottery (STL), known as “bookies” here at km 5, Asin Road, Tadiangan on May 24. Arrested were Ronald Ognayon Cosil, 34 and Jerry Suyam Losnong, 35, both Tadiangan residents. Confiscated from Cosil were cash amounting to ± 200.00 and assorted gambling paraphernalia while P2,125.00 bet money and assorted gambling paraphernalia were also confiscated from Losnong. Police filed a case of violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by RA 9287 (illegal gambling) against the two bet collectors in court.

 Woman nabbed for recruitment, estafa

BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested a woman charged for syndicated illegal recruitment and estafa here May 25. Nabbed was Iona Mae Corral Curtis, 31, married, resident of No. 9-A Saint John St. Remerville Subdivision, Project 8, Quezon City. This, after judge Evangeline C. Castillo Marigomen of RTC Branch. 101, Quezon City issued warrant against Curtis for said crimes. The suspect was denied bail for illegal recruitment and bail of bail of P40,000 for estafa.

 Mixer falls 40-foot ravine in Tuba

TUBA, Benguet – A transit mixer vehicle fell down a ravine here around 4:48 p.m. of May 25 at Sitio Salat, Barangay Camp 3. A police report said the mixer owned by 3k Construction was driven by a certain Darryl Pohe, native of Ifugao. Investigation revealed the transit mixer was headed south when the driver lost control of the steering wheel prompting the driver to bump the mixer onto a parapet wall then fell a ravine 40 feet below. The driver who suffered serious injuries was rescued by personnel of local police, barangay officials and residents of Barangay Camp 3.

Man robs 3 CPs using mop with sticky paste

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three persons lost their expensive cellphones to a man who took a floor mop in a boarding house, pasted a sticky substance on it and used it to get their gadgets while they were sleeping in their room. A police report said the incident happened at km 5, Pico, around 4 a.m. of May 25 but was reported to police around two hours later.
The victims were identified as Merly Barbo Baldos, 47, of Sudipen, la Union; Janilo Aroy Baiwes, 24, technician, of Buguias, and Aryan May Acquipat Tiwtiwa, 22, sales lady, of Kibungan town, Investigation disclosed the victims were sleeping when the thief went inside the building through the unlocked door, got the mop and used it to get the gadgets on beds inside their room by putting it in through window grills. Taken from Baldos was a Samsung J8 worth P19,000; Baiwes, Samsung J5 and another unidentified brand.

Besao woman loses P3-K, 50 dollars to thief in BSU

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A 43-year-old woman learned a lesson the hard way after a thief stole from her bag cash worth P3,000, 50 Canadian dollars, ATM cards PRC License; SM advantage, Jollibee and SM Cinema cards. Sgt. Hannah C. Estipular of municipal police identified the victim as Rose Helen Piluden Bilag, 43, married, ASL teacher, of Besao, Mt. Province while the suspect is still unidentified. A police report said the theft happened at the Benguet State University gym here around 2 p.m. of May 25. Piluden blottered the incident saying she attended a family reunion at the gym, left her hand bag at her seat to get food. When she returned, the zipper of her bag was opened and her valuables were missing.

 African stude loses gadgets to thief

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – An African national lost his HP laptop, Samsung phone worth P25,000 and P2,000 cash to a still unidentified thief here on May 21 around 3:30 p.m. at his residence in Capjaran, Pico. The victim was identified as Hasssan Hassabaalah Moussa, 28, student. Investigation revealed the still unidentified suspect/s gained entry through the unlocked window and committed the theft.

Thief steals P2380-K from female farmer

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police are now looking for a thief who stole P280,000 of a female farmer here on May 25 around 7 to 11 a.m. at JC 049-2, km 4, Pico. The victim was identified as Rose Bekegan Magno, 57, widow, of Banooy, Buguias, Benguet and boarder at the place of incident. According to the victim, at around 6 p.m. that day, her nephew identified as Polonia Palkacio, 44, married, farmer, of Balili, Mankayan, Benguet handed to her the payment of their vegetables amounting to P280, 000 for safekeeping.
The victim hid the cash under her folded clothes inside the cabinet of her boarding house. When she returned around 11:30 a.m., she found the padlock of her boarding house was destroyed prompting her to check the cash but it was already missing. Investigation showed the suspect destroyed the padlock of the door and once inside took the cash and got out.
The hammer and destroyed padlock were placed on top of the sink at the kitchen. The crime scene was processed but no fingerprint was found by police. Result of footage of a CCTV camera installed at the place of incident was not released by police at press time.

Hi-Ace rams motorbike; driver, rider killed

BANGUED, Abra – The female driver of a motorcycle was killed while her back rider was seriously injured when they were hit by a Toyota High-Ace vehicle here around 10:45 a.m. on May 26. A police report said the incident happened along Barangay Agtangao.
The motorcycle was driven by Melody Tubaña Princena, 32, married of Barangay Malita, while the Toyota HI-Ace without plate number was driven by Ferdinand Dulan Reymundo. Investigation disclosed both vehicles were traversing the road towards town proper when the Toyota Hi-Ace bumped the motorcycle.
As a result, both driver and back rider of the motorcycle were injured and rushed to Seares Hospital at Bangued where Princena was pronounced dead by her attending physician. Reymundo was taken into custody by town police.
