Ex-Cordillera NPA rebels form group, elect officers

Province -- Elected officers of the Cordillera Former Rebels (CFRO)
Organization took their oath and were inducted at the provincial multipurpose
plaza in Poblacion, Bontoc here on May 28.
Guest of honor and speaker Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. administered the oath taking of elected CFRO officers, former New People’s Army guerillas.
Inducted president was James Maitang Biag of Mountain Province; Marcelino Ibana of Kalinga vice president; Edna Sibayan of Kalinga as secretary; Jeffrey Esnara (Benguet), auditor; Agustin Batona (Ifugao), treasurer and press relations officers (PROs) Rogelio Anggaboy of Kalinga; Mario Lapa-an (Mountain Province) and Joni Bumidang of Ifugao.
Also in attendance to witness the ceremony were Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee, Brig. Gen. Krishnamuritia Mortela and Col. Santiago Enginco of Philippine Army.
Provincial and municipal officials, ELCAC members of Mountain Province and former rebels from Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province also attended the event.
In his message, Lacwasan urged the former rebels to support programs of the government as their organization will help persuade those who are still part of the armed struggle to return back to the folds of law.
To end the program, Lee facilitated giving of tokens and cash assistance to the former rebels to aid them in returning to normal lives.
