LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Benguet Farmers Federation of Irrigators’ Association will now be direct supplier of vegetables and fruits of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (Benguet).
This developed after the signing of marketing agreement with the BFFIA led by its president, Domingo Awas, and representatives of the BJMP’s seven jails in Benguet at the NIA Cordillera Farmers’ Training Center here on June 28.
These were the Baguio City Jail (male and female dorms), Buguias District Jail, Itogon Municipal Jail, La Trinidad District Jail (male and female dorms), La Trinidad Municipal Jail, and Tuba Municipal Jail.
NIA Cordillera Administrative Region regional manager Benito T. Espique Jr.  said the endeavor was a big boost to the BFFIA as the irrigators need marketing of their agricultural products.
The agreement was in line with the program “Enhanced partnership against hunger and poverty (EPAHP)” of the national government to mitigate hunger, ensure food and nutrition security and reduce poverty in urban and rural communities.
This partnership shows that we, in the public service, are resilient even in this time of pandemic,” said BJMP-CAR assistant regional director of administration Wilson Banasen.
BJMP was one of the 18 agencies in CAR which signed the memorandum of understanding of the EPAHP in April this year.
NIA, as one of the supporting agencies, assists irrigators' associations  links them to other partner agencies for credit and other related support services so their needs as suppliers can be provided as well as provide the needs and demands of partner agencies' clients.
