BAGUIO CITY -- The Baguio City Police Office has set tighter border control regulations to prevent individuals from freely entering the city amidst new Covid-19 variants and stop surges in cases.
City police operations chief Lt. Col. Domingo Gambican significant increase in motorists coming up to the city were noted starting every Friday up to the weekend that is why there was need to deploy additional law enforcers to manage the main quarantine checkpoints along Marcos highway, Naguilian road, Kennon road and Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road.
Pass-through travelers are now required to secure pass-through passes in entry points and leave the same in their exit points to ensure proper monitoring of their travel,
Gambican said a problem encountered by law enforcers managing checkpoints was insufficient personnel to escort travelers to the city’s central triage at the Baguio Convention Center thus the need for augmentation from nearest police stations to escort motorists for triaging.
He added police managing checkpoints also lack rain gear making it difficult to perform their  duties during heavy downpour that cause travelers to freely pass through quarantine checkpoints.
Gambican said during weekends, bulk of police personnel in checkpoints are tapped to augment main entry points of the city.
He added there were instances when travelers sneaked into the city.- Dexter A. See
