CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga — The Dept. of
Trade and Industry led destruction of uncertified products confiscated from
establishments in the city last week.
These products, mostly electrical supplies, were found to have no Philippine Standard (PS) mark, no Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker, or not in the list of licensed products and were fake products.
These are unsafe, could endanger lives and properties, DTI officials said.
Provincial DTI director Renie Ramos was joined by City Environment and Natural Resources Office head Salud Lammawin and Aubrey Agyao of the Environment Management Bureau in destroying confiscated products inspected by authorities.
As these were reportedly non-biodegradable and hazardous to the environment. DTI coordinated with the ENRO and the EMB for proper disposal.
Henry Gupaal who represented the city local government unit in the activity said the city government is one with DTI in its job to keep the buying public safe from unscrupulous businessmen and is committing support to regulatory functions of DTI in cleaning stores of unsafe products being sold to the public.
DTI is also checking construction materials if these are standard-compliant products.
“We do not only confiscate but we also impose penalty on erring sellers, DTI officials said.
