BONTOC, Mountain Province — Mountain Province Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. urged the public to  adhere to all health and safety protocols as Covid-19 cases in the province are on  upward trend since September.
The Provincial Health Office reported from Sept. 1 to 30, 2021, Mountain Province recorded 703 new Covid-19 confirmed cases bringing the total to 5,652 with 5,319 recoveries, 230 active cases and 103 deaths.
Of 103 Covid-19 related death cases, 17 individuals, all with co-morbidities, were recorded last month.
Lacwasan said that the increase of Covid-19 cases was due to travelers and returning residents coming in and out of the province in recent weeks.
Most of barangays have cases, even the remote ones.
The province recorded its first Delta variant case last Sept. 25.
The case is a 51 year old female from Bananao, Paracelis who was swabbed on August 16 who has already recovered.
The province experienced surge of cases during the first quarter of this year with the detection of Alpha variant   particularly in the capital town of Bontoc.
It has since been able to maintain lesser   cases until the upward trend last month.
To prevent further spread of the virus, Lacwasan said the provincial government has imposed stricter entry protocol.
Non-residents coming to Mountain Province are required to present at the border checkpoints either a full vaccination card or a negative RT-PCR test result.
Lacwasan added that residents entering the province are also required to present their vaccination cards showing they are fully vaccinated.
Travelers, whether residents or non-residents of Mountain Province, are also advised to limit such inter-zonal movement for essential purposes only.
Lacwasan said the province has learned lessons from the previous surge and has prepared isolation facilities, treatment and monitoring facilities. — JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
