PNP, Army set security plans, updates on polls

CAMP FLORENDO, San Fernando City, La Union -- Police Regional Office 1 under Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta and the Philippine Army presented their programs on political security and updates to ensure a peaceful election come May elections.
    The security preparations were discussed in the regional police headquarters here Monday during Regional Joint Security Control Center conference.
    The conference was attended Lt. Marni Marcos, commander of Area Police Command Northern Luzon, PRO1 key officials headed by Peralta, Brig. Gen. Khrisnamurti Mortela, brigade commander of 702nd IB, Philippine Army and Commission on Elections officials representatives headed by lawyer Jubil S. Surmieda, the regional director as chairman.
    The Comelec deputized military and police as partners in ensuring safe elections in the region.
    The meeting was also attended by members of the PRO 1 regional staff, 702nd Infantry Brigade triad staff and national government agencies.
    PNP and AFP representatives presented security updates on the political situation in their respective areas of jurisdiction, including the 2022 NLE security preparations, assessment election areas of concern among others.
    Comelec provincial election officers discussed resolutions related to the polls.
    “In this coming election, we want to have a unified effort to have a peaceful exercise of the elections, one wherein all voters shall be safe and secured to make their own choices without intimidation, force, pressure or any violent acts which vitiates their free will.” Peralta said.
    Peralta added Ilocos Region is currently generally peaceful in terms of criminality and insurgency and vowed police will do its best to maintain it. 
    He told police to remain committed in their duties and strictly enforce the law.
    Comelec officials said all government agencies and instrumentalities were placed on alert ready to support them in this year’s elections.
