QUEZON, ISABELA -- A three-hour fire gutted buildings of the privately-owned La Salette of Quezon school here in Purok 3, Samonte village night of May 25,  witnesses and fire protection officials said Thursday.
Village councilor Leo Warren Daguio, who witnessed the fire, said they were having snacks in front of the school when they saw smoke coming out from the faculty building.
He added that he and the other witnesses immediately called Bureau of Fire Protection station workers, who sent a team to put out the fire.
Firefighters had to destroy the padlock of the gate to enter the school premises.
Senior Fire Officer 3 Limberto Morales Jr., Quezon town fire marshal, said they were still investigating the cause of the fire and determining the amount of damage.
Gutted were the canteen, accounting office, registrar's office, faculty office, computer room, laboratory room, library and classrooms in the elementary-school department building.
The secondary-school department building was not affected.
Fire protection teams from nearby towns of Santa Maria, Roxas and Mallig also deployed fire trucks to help control the fire, which started at about 6 p.m. and was put out at 9 in the evening.
