Bontoc tops awards for governance

Province – This capital town is again the only qualifier among Mountain
Province towns and is one among 11 municipal and provincial local government
units in Cordillera awarded the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance
(SGLG) for the year 2022.
Bontoc passed the SGLG for the years 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019 and was dubbed Hall of Famer National SGLG Awardee.
For the 5th time, Bontoc passed the test of good local governance with the following criteria: financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity; safety, peace and order; health compliance and responsiveness; Sustainable education; business friendliness and competitiveness; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture and arts and youth development.
Bontoc was also conferred the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG) for the year 2021.
The SCFLG is a recognition system for LGUs that passed the annual mandatory child-friendly local governance audit which covers five indicators to include survival, development, protection, participation, and governance and LGUs' overall performance in implementing child-friendly policies, programs, projects, and services.
According to Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Lourdes Claire Peel, the SCFLG is one of the requirements under the social protection and sensitivity programs of the Seal of Good Local Governance of the Dept. of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Other awardees in Mountain Province were the municipalities of Tadian and Paracelis.
All 16 barangays of Bontoc were awarded the Ideal Barangay Development Council Functionality Award for CY 2020.
Bontoc is the only municipality in Cordillera which all barangays were conferred the said award.
According to the DILG, having an Ideal Functional Barangay Development Council, means that BDC acquired a rating of 80-100% and was able to achieve all indicators for evaluating functionality.
Meanwhile, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Lourdes Claire Peel was awarded a plaque of recognition for her dedication and effort in providing technical assistance and guidance to ensure the ideal functionality of the 16 BDCs under her area of responsibility.
The plaques of recognition were given during the celebration of the 31st Local Government Month held at Hotel Elizabeth, Baguio City Oct. 25, 2022.
Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong Jr., congratulated all stakeholders and partner agencies for their contributions in the attainment of the awards.
