BAGUIO CITY -- Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan cited importance of disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery during meeting of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council August 9 at a local hotel here. He said recent events like Super Typhoon ‘Egay’ that left one dead, several injured and substantial cost in damages in the Summer Capital, highlighted necessity to fortify the city’s strategies in disaster management.
“By drawing the lessons from previous disasters, and sharing insights and best practices, we can equip ourselves to face challenges head-on and minimize their impact. Proper coordination stands as a cornerstone of our efforts and working together seamlessly enables us to optimize resources, streamline processes, and enhance our community’s overall preparedness,” Olowan said.
He cited urgency of establishing a dedicated DRRM team adding that permanent DRRM personnel are indispensable in ensuring continuous preparedness and effective response.
“I am urging the City Budget Office to prioritize funding for salaries and emoluments for these critical roles as they contribute directly to the safety of our community,” the Vice Mayor said.
He cited CDRRMC members and volunteers who swiftly responded during the recent typhoon as their “rapid and effective action exemplifies the strength of collaboration in times of crisis.”
“Let’s continue to harness our collective strength to build a safer and more resilient future for all,” Olowan said.
Councilor Jose Molintas, chair of the city council’s public order and safety committee attended the meeting presided by CDRRM Office officer-in-charge Louie Glenn Lardizabal.
