BAGUIO CITY— The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PhilExport) called for more syustematic way of promoting and exporting Cordillera products.
“Let explore and learn to export our Cordillera products,” said Deo Dariel Baniqued, PhilExport executive director citing plans to activate the group in the Cordillera to boost the region's economic potential and cultural diversity.
In the coming days, we will see a new image of PhilExport as we are now crafting plans for membership expansion and likewise be conducting orientations, seminars, expos to encourage micro, small and medium enterprises to explore and learn more about how we could improve and export our products, Baniquesd said in a press statement.
Baniqued highlighted the rich cultural heritage and unique products that the Cordillera region has to offer. He stressed that it's essential to harness these resources not only for local development but also to contribute to the country's export industry.
"The Cordillera region is a treasure trove of distinct and high-quality products that hold both cultural and economic value," Baniqued said during his speech. "By focusing on exploring and exporting these products, we can not only boost the local economy but also promote the unique traditions and craftsmanship of the Cordilleran people."
Recently, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved memorandum circular no. 23 or the Philippine Export Development Plan 2023-2028 and directing concerned government agencies to identify and implement relevant programs, activities and projects in support thereof.
Baniqued cited need for collaboration between local producers, government agencies, and exporters to ensure the successful promotion and export of Cordillera products.
He sdaid creating strong networks and value chains within the region can lead to increased opportunities for both traditional and emerging industries.
The call to explore and export Cordillera products aligns with PhilExport's broader mission to enhance the competitiveness of Philippine exports in the global market.
By tapping into the distinct offerings of the Cordillera region, the organization aims to diversify the country's export portfolio and tap into niche markets that appreciate authenticity and cultural heritage.
Local artisans, producers, and entrepreneurs in the Cordillera region have welcomed Baniqued's statement, viewing it as a potential catalyst for growth and recognition. The region is known for products such as handwoven textiles, traditional handicrafts, and specialty agricultural goods, which have garnered attention for their unique qualities.
Stakeholders are expected to work closely with PhilExport to develop strategies for product development, market expansion, and sustainable sourcing. With the advocacy of Baniqued and PhilExport, the Cordillera region could soon become a prominent hub for authentic and culturally significant exports, enriching both local communities and the Philippine economy as a whole.
