PCG officer drowns in LU rescue mission

TUBAO, La Union -- A member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) drowned during a rescue operation here Tuesday.
Petty Officer Third Class Ponciano Nesperos of PCG’s Special Operations Group-North Western Visayas, was with a rescue team that responded to a drowning incident in a river in Sitio Daeng, Barangay Halog East, PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo said.
Nesperos was reportedly securing a safety line on the other side of the river when he lost his balance and was swept away by the strong current.
He was declared dead on arrival at the La Union Medical Center.
