BAGUIO CITY— A World War 2 exhibit, dubbed "War of Our Fathers," will be showcased at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center Sept. 3 to 12.
The event was organized by the Philippine Veterans Bank and city government in commemoration of the surrender of Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita that ended the Philippine-Japan war 78 years ago.
The exhibit honors bravery of Filipino and American soldiers and resilience of the Filipino people during Second World War through photographs, memorabilia and artifacts.
One highlight is the detailed look at Baguio City during Japanese occupation in the 1940s and the days leading to the surrender of Gen. Yamashita on Sept. 3, 1945.
The exhibit will open September 3 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Renato Claravall, PVB president and acting chief executive officer; Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong; Defense Undersecretary Reynaldo Mapagu, administrator of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office; and US Ambassador to the Philippines Mary Kay Carlson.
Since its inception in 2006, the traveling exhibit has gone around the Philippines to showcase war heroes and their stories of heroism and bravery.
The exhibit also aims to increase and make young Filipinos aware on how Filipino soldiers fought to gain freedom and independence that the country now enjoys.
The exhibit is open to the public for free.
