Baguio taxi operators told: Upgrade units

BAGUIO CITY -- Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified City Council Resolution 546, s. 2023, encouraging taxi operators to upgrade their units and taxi drivers to improve their quality of service in the Summer Capital.
"The City of Baguio takes pride in being a favorite regular and daily tourist destination of local and foreign travelers," the measure stated.
"As a small city beset with traffic and parking problems, measures to mitigate the situation have been established which include requesting tourists to park their private vehicles and use regular public transportation."
It claimed, however, that most of public transportation in the city like taxi cabs have unkempt passenger seats, untidy flooring and non-functioning windows which make a very uncomfortable ride.
Such inconvenience, the resolution added, is aggravated by some disorderly drivers who are not even familiar with the various routes and places in the city.
The measure also suggests that drivers need to be knowledgeable with the different tourist destinations as well as the city's culture and traditions.
"There is a need to remind, guide and help taxi operators and drivers of their continuous quality taxi units and services, including strict compliance with all traffic laws, rules and regulations to ensure their passengers' safety," it added.
A copy of the resolution was also sent to the City Tourism Office for its appropriate action.
