Ex-convict runs amuck in Ifugao ; hacks stude dead, injures 11 others

ASIPULO, Ifugao – A student was killed while 10 others were injured when an ex-convict ran amuck and hacked victims in separate incidents starting around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 18 here in Barangay Amduntog.
The suspect, identified as Davis Bullong was shot and injured. According to Asipulo Police, he was imprisoned on 2001 to 2013 for frustrated murder.
“We seek your support and unity during this trying time. We also ask all of us to share our sympathies to the family of the victim who did not survive and pray for those who were severely injured by the untoward incident, the Municipal Government of Asipulo said in a statement.
The local government coordinated with Dept. of Education Asipulo District wherein it was decided to suspend classes Oct. 19 at Asipulo Central School where the incident happened and Asipulo National High School considering students were traumatized by the incident.
“We request other schools and institutions to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of their students, employees and clients, the Asipulo LGU said in the statement.
Police said they received around 3:30 p.m., Oct. 18, a phone call from a concerned citizen informing that a hacking incident was in progress at Sitio Daulan, Amduntog.
Asipulo police led by PEMS Calixto B. Gahid immediately responded to the incident.
Police identified victims as Aldrick G. Hagada, barangay chairman of Amduntog, Asipulo; Michael Tukal, Hazan Kitong, Tomas Tayaban, Esperanza Tadao, Jenarize Dinamling, Melanie Tahin, Joselyn Tognaon, Viana Tognaon, Franz Joe Tognaon, Austine Espiritu and others still to be identified.
Suspect Bullong was reportedly “neutralized” by SSg Jet B. Galiom of Asipulo Police Station.
Bullong was reportedly brought to the Barangay Health Center of Amduntog after he was shot by Galiom to disable him.
Capt. Francisco B. Buyuccan, acting chief of police coordinated with Ifugao Provincial Forensic Unit and Asipulo Rural Health Unit after investigation revealed the suspect went to the house of Tomas Tayaban and asked for water to drink.
With no apparent reason the suspect hit Michael Tukal who was at the same house with wood then attacked Tomas Tayaban who was carrying his nephew Hasan Kitong and hacked them both.
Later, Bullong suspect went to Sitio Halulug, Amduntog, Asipulo, and chanced upon Esperanza Tadao, Jenarize Dinamling and Melanie Tahin who were washing ginger and still with no apparent reason hacked the three females.
Suspect then went at Asipulo Central School, Amduntog, Asipulo, Ifugao after hacking the individuals at the barangay hall and chanced upon Austine Espiritu who was going home after his class and hacked him then approached Letty Monayao and was about to hack her when SSg Jet B. Galiom who first responded to the incident shouted at the suspect and warned him to stop but suspect still proceeded to hack Monayao so Galiom shot him on his right thigh to disable him.
Bullong turned at him and was tried to hack him prompting Galiom to fire another shot that disabled the suspect.

The firearm of SSg Galiom and Bullong’s bolo was taken under custody of the municipal police station.

After hacking the three, Bullong went to the Barangay Hall of Amduntog, Asipulo and hacked Aldrick G. Hagada, Joselyn Tognaon, Viana Tognaon and Franz Joe Tognaon who was on duty at the said hall.
