New Bontoc b’gay execs oriented on basic governance

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Newly-elected barangay officials of this capital town attended pre-assumption forum Thursday to orient them with needed knowledge and skills in the performance of their duties and responsibilities in their barangays.
    Punong barangays and Sanggunian members attended the forum at the Municipal Capitol auditorium for smooth assumption to the office understanding of their obligations as public servants.
    Municipal operations officer Lourdes Claire Peel of the Dept. of Interior and Local Government headed the training and oriented them on guidelines in appointing their Lupong Tagapamayapa, secretary and treasurer.
    Municipal Budget Officer Aida Lingbanan also told participants budget of the barangay while Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Johanna Padaen talked on community-based DRMM plan in every barangay and utilization of the 5% Calamity Fund.     Municipal Planning and Development Officer Virginia Kawi explained planning process of the barangay while assistant municipal treasurer Mellicynth Yodong bared income sources of the barangay.
    Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., cited critical role local leaders play in the community's development saying barangay officials bear the responsibility of directly impacting lives of  people they serve.
    "Remember that you're not just leaders. You are also neighbors, friends, and partners in the progress of this community. Your empathy and understanding will be crucial in bringing people together and building a stronger, more inclusive barangay," the mayor said.
