LINGAYEN,
Pangasinan — After visiting Taiwan last month, Gov. Amado Espino Jr. with some
members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan expressed interest in adapting farming
technologies in Taiwan to improve agricultural development in this province.
Espino
said the province can replicate what the Taiwanese people achieved if local
farmers will work with determination and cooperation.
During
the recent distribution of the 500,000 fingerlings and certfied
seed at the Agricultural Field Office in Sta. Barbara, the governor
called on farmers to work together to improve agricultural yields.
He
recalled his trip to Taiwan with SP members upon the invitation of Manila
Economic and Cultural Office (NECO) Chairman Amadeo Perez to learn the
technology of the Taiwanese people who have developed highly-improved
agricultural techniques.
Amazed
with what he observed during the trip in Taiwan on May 16-22, Espino said
Filipinos must be challenged to attain the agricultural development now enjoyed
by Taiwan and other countries like Thailand and Korea.
“The
irony of it is that these countries learned the technology from us. Sagana at
mas fertile angmgalupanatin, mas nauna pa tayongnakapag-aralngteknolohiyangayontayoang
nag-aaralsakanila,” he said,
Saying
Pangasinan is a rich agricultural province that will continue to be such for
the next 50 years, the governor called on his constituents to strive harder in
improving their skills and technology in farming.
In
return, Espino vowed the full support of the provincial government and national
line agencies in providing facilities like the Rice Processing Complex.
