LA
TRINIDAD, Benguet— The Technical Education and Skill Development Authority
Cordillera cannot accommodate all who wish to enroll at their regional training
center in nearby Baguio City even if they like to because of limited space of
their facilities.
Anthony Oria, regional Tesda information
officer bared this during media forum on "OplanvBalikvEskwela" in this capital town last week, saying they can only accept a total of 150 students
even if the number of enrollees every year reaches up to more than a thousand.
He said most of them enroll in welding and
automotive courses.
According
to Oria, their regional training center is the smallest training facility of
TESDA in the whole country. He said that even the Baguio City School for Arts
and Trade (BCSAT) is small to accommodate more students.
He said one factor why they can only accept
less number of students is lack of teachers.
He said because of that, they cannot hold one
class in the morning and one in the afternoon.
He said if such is possible then they can
afford to accommodate more students.
He
added they can do it at present if they want to make two classes in a day with
the same instructors teaching in those days.
"Ang problema lang dito ay yung magiging
quality ng pagtuturo ng mga instructors kasi magiging paulit-ulit na lang yung sasabihin
nila magmula sa klase nila sa umaga hanggang sa klase nila sa hapon," (The
problem of such is the quality of the teaching methods of the instructors as
they will only repeat what they will say in the morning classes in their
afternoon classes) he said. He explained that there will be tendencies that
their focus and accuracy on their subjects will be affected as it will be
repetitious to them.
Oria said he hoped these concerns would be
addresses by the incoming administration of incoming president Rodrigo Duterte.
He said TESDA Cordillera will request to the
new administration assistance in acquiring more spaces to build additional
school buildings and other facilities and hiring of more trainors and
instructors.
