Missing dead miner found

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A cadaver was found here at Barangay Beckel inside a rice jute sack August 11 by a local resident who reported this to police.

The body was identified six days later by the victim’s mother as Rolly Dagwasi Quijada, 26, a private miner of Antamok, Loakan, Itogon Benguet.

Veronica Dagwasi identified her son’s body through the teeth and clothes of the victim.

According to Ms Dagwasi, the last time she saw her son was in January and he never went home after that.

She said she did not know anyone who could have done this to her son because she did not know of any enemy of Rolly.

Police said the victim had been wanted for months.

Elizardo Dailag, a Baguio cop said the victim was killed two weeks to a month earlier but they had lead yet on who could have done the crime. -- Dennis R. Khan


2 students swept to Balili River; 1 dead

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – One grade school student died while her companion survived after they were swept away by strong current while swimming here at a creek along km 5 around 4 p.m. of August 16.

Rescuers later found the pupils of Balili Elementary School at Balili River around 50 meters away from the national road.

This area is a swimming spot and hangout of students which is located around 50 meters away from Nardas Shop.

Police identified the students as Jemalyn Sabdoy and Kyle
Adtao.

The two went to the creek to swim after their class around 3:30 p.m. but it started to rain heavily that made the water flow strong.

Sabdoy was found dead while Adtao survived after he was rushed to the Benguet General Hospital where he was confined.
